With the conclusion of a slightly fragmented, and then curtailed season, we got the thoughts of Coaches Tom ‘Dubby’ Doubleday and James ‘Snapey’ Snape on their first season at Dukes Meadows:
“Our first season at Chiswick RFC, like for any new coaches, came with its challenges, but we have worked as a coaching team together before which made overcoming these easier. We knew very little about the club history apart from what you read and were of course meeting everyone from players, bar staff to committee members for the first time. Moving to Chiswick we found ourselves in unfamiliar territory in a club with no previous ties.
Like any new club, you need a little time to get comfortable and we as coaches were no different. Credit must go to the players, medical team and committee for buying in to us and shortening this time considerably. Whether or not you think what you are doing is right for your new club, many others would have been stubborn or resistant to change. As a group, we all got our heads down and despite some painful lessons, we found the transition required in mentality and style of play to produce a better season upon last, for that we thank them.
Chiswick RFC has a good standard of player and being able to coach and improve each individual work to date has resulted in many of the same faces coming back next season including us. For next season, we find ourselves in a new league and surrounded by positive changes at a time when many feel the latter stages of last season were taken away from us. Our players have chosen not to dwell and instead are preparing themselves for 2020/21, whatever it brings we will all be ready.”
